We preach the Bible without apology, worship like God is in the room, and build a church where people actually know each other.
How Valor started
A honeymoon that started it all.
In 2015, Justin and Lacy McKay honeymooned here in northwest Arvada. Driving past the new neighborhoods and growing families, Justin asked one question. Where are all the churches?
That question never let go of them. Years later, God called them back to answer it themselves, and to reach one of the most unchurched corners of North America.
They launched in 2022 as The Local Church. In 2026 it became Valor, putting down roots in northwest Arvada as we build toward a permanent home.
We're not trying to be the biggest church in Arvada. We're trying to be the most faithful one.

The Bible is the starting point, and we don't apologize for that.
Valor is a church rooted in historic biblical doctrine, adhering to the Baptist Faith and Message. We believe Scripture is God's literal words to us. Jesus Christ is the only path to salvation, and the local church exists to make disciples, worship God, and serve the city.
What we hold to
Valor's Theology and Doctrine
We hold to historic Christian doctrine, all of it rooted in Scripture, which is the source of all truth and shapes everything we believe. The positions below are drawn from the Baptist Faith and Message, condensed for clarity, with the full statement linked at the end.
The Scriptures
The Bible is God's revelation of Himself to us, written by men He divinely inspired. It has God as its author, salvation as its end, and truth without any mixture of error as its matter, so it is totally true and trustworthy. It is the supreme standard by which all conduct, creeds, and opinions are measured. And every part of it points to Christ, who is the focus of God's revelation.
God
There is one and only one living and true God, the Creator and Ruler of all things, infinite in holiness and every perfection. He is all powerful and all knowing, and to Him we owe our highest love, reverence, and obedience. The one God exists eternally as three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes but without division of nature or being. The Father reigns in providential care, the Son became man to redeem us, and the Holy Spirit convicts, regenerates, indwells, and empowers every believer.
Man
People are the special creation of God, made male and female in His own image, and the gift of gender is part of the goodness of His creation. Created innocent and free, man chose to sin against God and brought sin into the human race. As a result, every person inherits a nature inclined toward sin and, once capable of moral action, stands under condemnation. Only the grace of God can restore us, yet because we bear His image and Christ died for us, every person of every race has full dignity and is worthy of respect and love.
Salvation
Salvation is the redemption of the whole person, offered freely to all who turn from sin and trust Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. There is no salvation apart from personal faith in Him. It begins with the new birth, a change of heart worked by the Holy Spirit, to which the sinner responds in repentance and faith; in justification God fully acquits the believer and brings him into peace with Himself. The believer is then set apart and grows toward maturity by the Spirit, and salvation is completed in glorification, the final and abiding state of the redeemed.
God's Purpose of Grace
Election is the gracious purpose of God by which He regenerates, justifies, sanctifies, and glorifies sinners. It is consistent with the free will of man, displays God's sovereign goodness, and excludes boasting while it promotes humility. All true believers endure to the end: those God has accepted in Christ and sanctified by His Spirit will never finally fall away. They may stumble into sin and grieve the Spirit, yet they are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation.
The Church
A New Testament church is an autonomous local congregation of baptized believers, joined by covenant in the gospel, observing the two ordinances of Christ and governed by His Word. Each congregation operates under the Lordship of Christ, and every member is accountable to Him. Its two scriptural offices are pastor/elder/overseer and deacon; while both men and women are gifted for service, the office of pastor/elder/overseer is limited to men as qualified by Scripture. Scripture also speaks of the church as the Body of Christ, which includes all the redeemed from every tribe, tongue, people, and nation.
Baptism and the Lord's Supper
Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience that pictures faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior, and the believer's death to sin and new life in Christ. As a church ordinance, it comes before the privileges of church membership and the Lord's Supper. The Lord's Supper is a symbolic act of obedience in which members partake of the bread and the fruit of the vine to remember Christ's death and look forward to His return.
The Lord's Day
The first day of the week is the Lord's Day, a Christian institution for regular observance. It commemorates the resurrection of Christ from the dead. It should be marked by worship and spiritual devotion, both public and private. How we keep it should reflect the Christian's conscience under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
The Kingdom
The Kingdom of God is both His general sovereignty over all things and His particular reign over those who willingly acknowledge Him as King. In its saving sense, it is the realm people enter by childlike commitment to Jesus Christ. Christians are called to pray and labor that the Kingdom would come and God's will be done on earth. Its full consummation awaits the return of Jesus Christ at the end of this age.
Last Things
In His own time and way, God will bring the world to its appropriate end. Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly in glory, the dead will be raised, and Christ will judge all people in righteousness. The unrighteous will be consigned to Hell, the place of everlasting punishment. The righteous, in resurrected and glorified bodies, will receive their reward and dwell forever in Heaven with the Lord.
Evangelism and Missions
It is the duty and privilege of every follower of Christ, and every church, to make disciples of all nations. The new birth produces love for others, so mission flows from the very life of the regenerate and is commanded again and again by Christ. The Lord Jesus has commanded the preaching of the gospel to all nations. Every child of God should seek constantly to win the lost to Christ by verbal witness backed by a Christian life, and by every method in harmony with the gospel.

How is Valor different from other churches in Arvada?

What neighborhoods does Valor serve?
We meet at Excel Academy in northwest Arvada and serve families across Five Parks, Candelas, Leyden Ranch, Whisper Creek, Westminster, Broomfield, and Wheat Ridge.
Who is the pastor of Valor Church?
Justin McKay is the Lead Pastor. He and his wife Lacy planted Valor in Arvada in 2022. He preaches verse by verse through books of the Bible every Sunday, and is passionate about building a church that is relationally driven and feels like family.
Is Valor theologically conservative?
Yes. We don't soften the Bible to make it comfortable. We preach it plainly, boldly, and with depth.
What denomination is Valor?
Valor is a biblical church, theologically aligned with Send Network and Vintage Mission, church-planting networks focused on planting churches in regions where churches are few.
When did Valor start?
We launched in February 2022 as The Local Church and became Valor in 2026. We're an intergenerational congregation, with young families a big part of who we are. But no matter your age or background, Valor is a home for all kinds of people, and that's part of what makes it special.
